Welcome to the Steere Family Association Website.  The Association consists of descendents (and their spouses) of John Steere, farmer and orchardist, who came to Rhode Island in the mid-seventeenth century, settling first in Providence, and later in Smithfield, RI.  He married Hannah Wickenden, daughter of the minister of the First Baptist Church in America, in 1660.  They had nine children and have many descendents today throughout the country.

The Steere Family Association was founded in 1930 by John P. Steere, Sr., and has had annual reunions ever since.  It has kept available the family genealogy written by James Pierce Root more than 100 years ago, and has published two sequels: The John Steere Family Branches (1972) and the John Steere Family Album (1981).  It is currently updating and computerizing the genealogies.  It also preserves family cemeteries and keeps extensive files of family vital records.

All descendents of John Steere, their spouses,  their extended families, and all who are interested in the family and its history are welcome at the annual reunions, which feature fun, games, meals, and prizes, as well as business meetings, historical tours, talks, and the sharing of family information.
